Watch of the Day – Review of the Orient EV0S003B

Orient does not disappoint when it comes to great mechanical timepieces at affordable prices, and the Orient EV0S003B is no exception. This model is fashioned from stainless steel, which has been brushed and polished to a fine finish. I especially like the polished bezel set against the satin finished backdrop of the case middle.

The 5-piece stainless steel bracelet is quite lovely with its matching brushed and polished finishes. Orient uses a single folding clasp to fasten this gent's timepiece to the wrist. The ridged, push/pull main crown easily adjust the day, date, and time; as well as winding the mainspring to quickly add energy to the timepiece. The case measures a conservative 40mm in diameter and just 11mm for the case height. Water resistance stands at a solid 50 meters or 5 bars, making this watch a good choice for daily wear.

The sharp black dial features a fine diamond shaped guilloche design that provide a clear background for the rhodium toned dauphine shaped hands, and applied baton index hour markers. At 12 o'clock is an aperture with the day of the week fully spelled out, while at 6 is another window but this time carrying just the date. The sweeping seconds hand is also rhodium toned on this model. Both the hands and the hour markers carry lume for optimal readability of the time during low light conditions. The crystal used is a hardened mineral, which resists minor scratches.

Powering the Orient EV0S003B is a self-winding mechanical movement caliber 46E40 that is made and assembled in Japan. This movement offers an autonomy of around 42 hours for this piece.
